MBFW San Jose 2015

For this edition of the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, GUAYABERI presented Ushé.
USHE stands for 'to transform' in the Brunka language spoken by the Boruca indians in Costa Rica. The Boruca indians have a dance called the 'Baile de los Diablitos' (Dance of the Devils), when performing the dance, they dress up in wooden masks carved with animal features and remember through their dance a time when they were forced to defend their land and their people. USHE tries to capture this transformation from peace-harmony (softness and fragility, pastel) to something strong, shielded (oversized, square, dark). This is done through an exploration of color and form.
To the rythm of drums and animal sounds, Guayaberi opened its runway show with four contemporary dancers, dressed in one-piece swimsuits and re-interpreting the Dance of the Devils. The collection then started with soft pastel tones and ended with dark blues, teal and chocolate.
